Antikythera Mechanism

I was hoping, since the news this summer, that someone would come up with better animations of the Antikythera Mechanism but this was the best I could find (besides poor animation and visuals most of the videos have such irritating soundtracks).

*[Later note:  A wonderful video with great animations is at Antikythera Mechanism, part 2, and here is a photo essay to complement it with photos, x-rays, and diagrams from the Antikythera Mechanism Research Project.]

Hi! Thanks for the link back!–sorry for the paucity of photosin my essay, but I’m glad you found the AMRP website where they all came from.

Oops (blush). I enjoyed your essay very much, it laid out the recent history of the mechanism nicely. I was frustrated that day because, as a visual person, it was hard to find many images (in general, not in your article) of such a lovely creation, and I will change the wording of the post to clarify that. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the re-creations, especially from the Whipple Museum.
